Growing Together: Container Garden Kits to students throughout Tompkins County
On Friday, June 5, ICG handed off 120 Container Garden kits to the Ithaca City School District to be delivered to students enrolled in the spring Farm to Table program that Saturday!
Each kit contains a 6-pack of basil, nasturtium, kale, and chard baby plants, a 5-gallon container, potting soil mixed with worm casting, and a guide to setting up and caring for the Container Garden, plus extension activities. We also shared videos and other activities to help families get started with and learn more about growing vegetables.
The Ithaca City School District Farm to Table Program is a free elementary school project-based program that focuses on growing, gardening, cooking, and nutrition and wellness.
The Farm to Table program is focusing on the question of how we stay connected and grow together from apart. This question is at the center of our ICG@HOME programming which provides activities and resources to help families stay connected to their community and grounded in nature.
Next up, ICG will be distributing 150 Container Garden kits to the Newfield School District and we will be continuing our collaboration with the ICSD Farm to Table program throughout the summer. Stay tuned!
