Fairy Wands
A week of fairy activities isn’t complete without building a fairy wand!
Materials:
- Stick, about 12 inches long
- Decorating materials: ribbon, twine or wire; beads, bells, gems, or crystals; sparkles: glitter, glitter glue, sequins
- Adventurous additions: hot glue, air-dry clay, paint
The Steps:
- Go outside and look for a stick or branch. Choose one that has already fallen if possible. You’ll know when you find the right stick. It will feel good in your hand.
- Make the wand your own.
- Wind ribbon, twine, or wire around the stick. Add beads or bells if you’d like.
- Use hot glue to give your wand texture. Paint over it once the glue dries. Leave it clear or sprinkle glitter while the glue is still wet.
- Use hot glue or tacky glue to attach an acorn, shell, rock, or crystal to the tip of your wand.
Extension Activities:
- Find out what kind of tree your wand branch came from. You can use the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Identification tool to help you!
- Research the magical properties and other uses of your tree. For example, maples are said to have healing properties and we also enjoy syrup made from maple sap.
